Is the curtains being blue a clue that will help the detective solve the murder?
Are the blue curtains supposed to add to the atmosphere or grief?
Are the curtains an allusion to another work that we're supposed to pick up on?
Are you describing the scene in a poetic way?

I'm not saying that is what happened here, but I feel like a lot of stories are obsessed with having a twist or shock ending for the sake of having one. And I'm not opposed to having surprises at the end of a story, but they seem to forget that a good twist needs to make retroactive sense.
