As the last of the feathered warriors are making their way south, BirdCast's bird migration maps end tonight.

Birds will still be flying at night for a few more weeks. Please turn off all non-essential lighting between 11:00 PM and 6:00 AM as our lights disorient them, causing injuries and deaths.

Fall bird migration is winding down. The birds remind you to please turn off non-essential lights from 11 pm to 6 am and to close blinds. They explain: lights attract and disorient us, making us vulnerable to building collisions and other threats such as outdoor cats. And they thank you! #birds 🌎

~1 of every 4 birds migrating through the US in the fall passes through TX. The majority of NA birds travel at night to avoid predators, take advantage of cooler/calmer air, and use the stars/moon to navigate. City lights can disorient birds, however, making them vulnerable to building collisions.

If you can't get the animal out, cut the webbing around it, put the animal and webbing in a paper bag/box (with air) to keep it calm, and take the whole package to the nearest wildlife rescue/rehab.

Following Oct. 6, 2023, and Sep. 25, 2025, BirdCast had it's 3rd billion-birds night on Oct. 8, 2025.

1.25 billion birds flew that night, making it the biggest night of migration yet recorded.

the Eagle's beak continues to slowly regrow (see below). Keratin, the fibrous protein forming the beak, is coming in on the sides and over the top of the beak. It will likely take another year to determine if the beak will be fully functional. More on WBS: www.worldbirdsanctuary.org. #birds
