I had no idea: in addition to the 120k people of Japanese descent, two-thirds of them US citizens, who were interned during World War II, in the 1930s and 1940s the US deported 1.2 million US citizens and 800k others for “being Mexican.”

My dad was serving in the US army in Germany when I was born in the local hospital (not even on the base).
But I’m white, so presumably I’m safe from deportation?

27 months in, still on disability with Long Covid (brain damage, fatigue), I’ve “retired” and moved to Maine. Catherine will join me in retirement in August.

I tried Stats for Dummies & hit the wall at standard deviations.
1. how does it make sense that with less skill and less luck I still beat the NYT average by half a guess?
2. what can i read to learn about statistics, and is it possible without math?
i recall some algebra and calculus exists.
