This was before the tariffs should become effective. But UPS didn’t want to correct their mistake, they just sent it to a debt collection company to chase me for the money. Yeah, this is all around terrible, and I don’t blame small businesses, but it’s also not really the fault of customers either

Many people only know what’s due when they receive the package. And sometimes the amount is incorrect or includes unfair amount of “handling”. I purchased baby clothes from a U.S. seller who shipped from Canada. UPS gave me a bill of over $160 for the tariffs they calculated plus handling. (2)

It’s a very messy situation, sellers usually can charge you the total prices that include taxes and shipping pre-tariffs so there would be no surprises. But with tariffs, many international sellers aren’t collecting them because they aren’t reporting them. (1)

I am one of those people who suddenly can’t get yarns from France (or other parts of Europe). Many local yarn shops stock these yarns from Europe too, the increased cost due to tariffs would mean less business for them as well. Many small businesses will have a hard time

If you can’t punch up, at least don’t punch down. Many don’t punch up because they are afraid of retaliation. But punching down isn’t going to fix anything
