I did a LOT of googling about options lol, because I know not sharing a surname with your kid can cause issues at borders sometimes. We basically just combed both our family trees and found the one we agreed on most and had the most palatable katakana.

Tbh that's why me and my partner picked a third surname to hyphenate with our birth surnames -- that way, we essentially have a "family name" that we all share and our individual preexisting surnames. (Though, if our original surnames sounded good together in any way, we probably would have just
