What an awesome day at the Lazy Daisy Author Fest yesterday! I got to hang out with 5 other amazing local Virginia Beach authors, sign books, and give big hugs to some surprise visitors. Lots to be thankful for! 📚

12 years ago I left a courtroom with a different marital status + a last name I hadn't used in 13 years. I emailed an editor + an hour later I announced my divorce in The New York Times. I'm thankful every day for my divorce + the path to happiness it created.

It was important to me that the 1st book I ever signed was for my parents. They were there every step of the way through my divorce, they were the first to read a draft of my manuscript + they cheered me on as I worked to get it published. I couldn't have done this without them!

10 years ago I wrote an article for the print magazine Military Kids’ Life about military divorce. It was interesting brainstorming ideas with my kids and hearing their thoughts on the changes in our family. (My son is quoted in the left yellow box, my daughter in the right yellow box.)
