Been a busy few weeks for Cllr Turan and I for Islington Labour in Laycock ward. We have been working hard to ensure resident concerns are heard, especialy in the Grove estate. Thanks to executive member for homes Cllr Woolf for the help with Hyde Housing to ensure works are carried out.

Excellent morning canvassing in Arsenal alongside Islington Labour colleagues and activists. Great to hear from residents and talk about the great work Cllr Bashir Ibrahim, @fincraig.bsky.social & @roulinkhondoker.bsky.social have been doing in the ward.

Great to take part in several events in Islington for Refugee Week, #communityasasuperpower. There is nothing like good food, music,to bring people together, extending a hand of friendship and embrace. We danced together, we ate together, we smiled together, this is community and this is Islington

This week, Cllr Nurullah Turan and I wrote to the Tribune expressing our readiness to work with the Ministry of Justice to bring the homes on Wellington Mews in Laycock Ward back into use. Our residents need good quality, affordable homes and these family sized units would provide just that.

I’m proud to be a migrant champion for Islington & of our work as a Borough of Sanctuary. Language is important which is why Cllr Una OHalloran, Cllr Sheila Chapman and I have written to the Home Secretary asking the Government to stand with us in supporting refugees and building community cohesion

In Islington we have long been asking for greater scrutiny of substandard asylum accomodation. Glad that action is being taken. Private companies shouldn't be profiting by providing inadequate and degrading accommodation for people seeking asylum.

In Islington we have long been asking for greater scrutiny of substandard asylum accomodation. Glad that action is being taken. Private companies shouldn't be profiting by providing inadequate and degrading accommodation for people seeking asylum.

Cllr Nurullah Turan and I were out in Laycock Ward @islingtonsouth.bsky.social around Colebeck Mews today. We are told it was one of the coldest mornings in Islington for 15 years 🥶 but the sunshine,great conversations and good company kept us warm 😀🌹

Had a really lovely time as consort to our brilliant Mayor of Islington Cllr Anjna Khurana, attending the Islington seniors lunch and NRPF, Refugee and Migrant Service christmas party. Great to talk to so many different people from all over Islington and hear their stories
