My youngest has been questioning Santa. Her test was to ask for something only Santa could give (something that can’t be bought), snow. This is what it looks like outside today. Christmas magic is back for at least one more year.

Spent the better part of the last week at Machias Seal Island helping with tern and eider census. Two notable observations: so many Common Eiders (more than double our last count) and Leach's Storm-petrel (not part of the census) seem to have increased substantially (census coming soon). #seabirds

Have you seen a melanistic Razorbill? My guess is no. Our new paper (out today in Marine Ornithology) describes what appears to be the THIRD account of a melanistic Razorbill. Here's hoping it returns to the colony this spring! www.marineornithology.org/PDF/52_1/52_...
