A display of pure power from Hurricane Melissa today.

Remarkable satellite imagery.

What we're witnessing with #Melissa is ultra rare in the history of known hurricanes in the Atlantic. This level of sustained intensity and feasting on every joule of ocean heat content without any real disruption is incredible.

Not hyperbole: Jamaica is facing a generational catastrophic event.

Two kids < 11 in this household. On many regular trips we just hop on the bus. Many trips 15-20 minutes on the bus. 5-10 in the car. Now, once they turn 11, with one adult there and back will be $24 😮. Will be hoping in the car instead 😢

"We denied the Liberals and NDP the chance to form a coalition government."

That's fundamentally untrue. They're literally at a combined 172 seats right now, which is enough for a majority.

(even though such an arrangement is unlikely)

Construction areas in @cityofnorthvan.bsky.social once again prioritizing vehicles over pedestrians. Drivers keep going in their lanes. Pedestrians have to cross the street, then cross back. Have seen this so many times. Not cool, esp for those w/mobility challenges.

I've heard that Andrews on 8th is closing Is it true? Another wonderful community space closing?

@andyprest.bsky.social @northshorenews.bsky.social , after your great piece on O'Neill's, it would be great if you did a piece on Andrews, if it's true.

And this trend really should be stopped. :(

Looking to buy Canadian? Pay CLOSE attention if you're at Loblaws (or anywhere...). I always look for BC or Canadian apples so today was BAU for me, but PLU numbers on signs didn't match stickers. And worse, countries didn't match - sign said Canada, sticker said USA.

Came to Bluesky to see reactions to Sim's DTES plan, to see if I'm alone in my incredulity and sadness. Glad to see I'm not. There's lack of concern for those needing it most & an aim to benefit those who always win with gentrification. Here's just one article I read: thetyee.ca/News/2022/10...
The Billionaire and the Mayor | The Tyee
Controversial billionaire Chip Wilson and Vancouver’s new mayor Ken Sim are friends. But do they share the same politics?

To the 240 @translink.bsky.social bus operator who just toot-tooted as they came up behind me as I walked toward a stop on Keith... Thanks! It took me until after they passed to realize they were alerting me in case I wanted the bus. I would've waved had I been quicker! That was nice! :)
