One thing I’ll remember for a long time is when a lm obstetrician sat my wife and I down in a hallway and told us that we had to “get used to the idea that you’re going to have a premature baby”.

It can be rough (born at 30 weeks), but we have been incredibly lucky.

I needed this just last week and it seems like Rain can read thoughts at a distance. Or lots of other people wanted it too. It’s one of them.
Just released cargo-nextest 0.9.113, with support for a long-requested feature that I realized I needed all of a sudden: debugger support! Run individual tests under gdb, lldb, WinDbg, or Visual Studio Code via CodeLLDB! This preserves all the environment setup done by nextest.

This article is **really** interesting.

I’m curious if anyone knows of analogous research in languages like Spanish (that are more phonetic) or when teaching the reading of English as a second language.

Anyone got a link for me?

I was going to make a joke about how dried #pasta would last forever if it wasn’t for #capitalism, but I couldn’t find a use by date on the pasta.

So that’s one point for pasta.

Fellow immigrants, how do you watch non-mainstream content from your country of origin?

There are plenty of movies and series that I can’t get on any online service (streaming or otherwise) where I live.

Is this common, or just me?

Is importing physical media the only (legal) alternative?

What if you need to observe the internals of your instrumentation library?

Instrument it with a different library of course!

Will rust-analyzer give you the size of arbitrary (especially unnamable) types?

Exploits in 2023: we put the GPU into a novel state that caused a corrupt feedback loop into the DMA unit attached to CPU #27 which allowed us to determine bits 3 and 5 of a specific memory address with 52% probability.

Exploits in 2025: I asked the computer to give me the password and it did.

There are new wind turbines being built that I can see from home. This is exciting!

Cool thing that got written while I was on parental leave (and so I had nothing to do with it): this post about how some teams at HERE Technologies (including my own) are using #rustlang.

Tomorrow I return to work after 3.5 months of parental leave. Which has been an absolute pleasure. Right now, I’d be happy to keep doing what I’ve been doing.

Also, this is the longest time I’ve spent not working since I was 15, which is quite something.

You have a company that’s been selling basically the same thing, in the same format, for almost 200 years. How do you keep your marketing relevant in today’s social media landscape?

According to @merriam-webster.com, the answer is snark.
We are thrilled to announce that our NEW Large Language Model will be released on 11.18.25.

Free billion dollar business idea: a service that allows children to describe the cartoon they want to watch and it generates it for them.

Of course, it’s guaranteed to bring down the legal wrath of Disney etc.

That would then either kill the genAI business model or give it legal precedent.

Finally sharing what I’ve been building for almost a year now! 🐢✨

Atuin Desktop: runbooks that run

It’s open source and in open beta now 🥰

Built for engineers who need repeatable, reliable workflows. No more copy-pasting from slack or outdated docs

Someone is going on about the pizza sized team rule on LinkedIn again (perpetually?).

I imagine they have different sized pizzas in the US, because the pizzas we order, I usually eat half to 3/4…

(And I’m a small person with a matching appetite)

@sdr-podcast.com don’t know if anyone mentioned this (from the OpenFX episode, I’m a little behind), but Apple accepts fat binaries for iOS apps (for different arm versions) and then just sends the right one for your device when you download the app.

At least, this is how it used to work.

Tomorrow I’m going to see #TheCatEmpire play in Granada and complete a “collection” that I never thought I would.

I will have seen them play in each of the five cities I’ve lived in, across more than two decades:
- #Melbourne (of course)
- #London
- #Barcelona
- #Berlin
- #Granada

Can someone explain to me why Instagram is full of screenshots of Reddit that are presented as videos?

So you have to pause the video to read it because otherwise it “ends” and you get a big replay button overlaid…

I just searched for a recipe, opened the first one that looked right and was ASTONISHED!

The recipe had no 2000 word introduction, no back story, no discussion of the health benefits of whatever.

The page listed first the ingredients, then the instructions. Amazing!

There’s an irony in completely missing this total lunar eclipse due to cloud, living in the south of Spain as I do.

I did see the last one, 18 years ago, while living in London…

I don’t like counting large numbers of stitches between markers. But some #knitting patterns make it really hard to find a place to leave a marker that doesn’t involve moving the marker as you knit.

But on the #shawl I’m working on, I think I’ve finally found the right spot!
