One of the intended consequences of President Trump’s politicization of the Justice Department is to leave behind a weakened, overwhelmed, decimated organization that simply can’t do its job. This is all coming home to roost in a very visible way in Minnesota:

1/ Just weeks after a Democrat was elected governor of NC in 2024 by an overwhelming margin, the state’s GOP-controlled legislature set out to strip him of powers.

What happened next illuminates the breakdown in the separation of powers throughout the nation.

There’s more than one way to cook the books. You can doctor or delete data after it’s been collected. Alternatively, ensure the numbers are never collected in the first place.
Lately, the Trump administration has been into leaning into that second scheme, by purging and defunding statistics agencies

I think Ketanji Brown Jackson's dissents are an important exception to the "Supreme Court dissents don't matter" rule of thumb, because she is using them not to argue with the conservative justices, but to explain to the public that the conservative justices are liars and in the tank for Trump
Ketanji Brown Jackson Is Telling the Truth About the Supreme Court
The task of interpreting the law is inherently “political.” But no justice has been this comfortable saying so in public.

Tariffs will be a potent and unilateral mechanism for reintroducing systematic corruption into our economy.

First, Trump can raise or lower tariffs unilaterally.

Second, he can grant exemptions, forcing people, corporations, localities, nations, and foreign actors to seek reprieve on bended knee.
Trump’s tariffs give him a new way to dole out reward and punishment
The president's latest power grab will devastate America's economy—and its democracy.
