It'll be easier to get as sunset times get earlier. But during the peak of winter, the net starts about an hour earlier. Someone also operates something that interferes during part of the net, so rx on 75m that close here is hit and miss and mostly mix of ground/skywave.

I listened to that net for years before getting my General class ticket, then checked in occasionally in the early 2000's before moving, life changes, and occasionally checked in until the early 2010s. Also the behavior of some hams after Hurricane Katrina exposed the virtue signaling PR.

Give a listen to the Arkansas Razorback Net (6:30pm Central time) and/or the Arkansas Phone Net 6:00am CT on 3987.5 KHz LSB. That "prayer" and preamble didn't start until the start of Obama's Presidency. Also the pre-net banter (about a half hour or so before) is telling.

@gogopoet.bsky.social I'm seldom "on air" much these days, even digital mode FT8. I still listen, but mostly to distant shortwave and mediumwave broadcasters. I might get back on air more this winter, but never on these gasbag nets.
