UX Engineer and JavaScript junkie. I like thinking about the future of the internet. He/him 🏳️‍🌈
I remain skeptical that the top level reasoning is anything more than controlled opposition as an “alternative” to defend the App Store monopoly but excited for progress all the same.

Hey just wanted to say thank you for writing this. I won’t speculate on the sincerity of other commenters but this line of thought you presented helped something click for me

@wesbos.com here’s your circular popcorn in smaller quantities if you’re still looking for that?

No dms so not sure what the proper etiquette is for stuff like this 🤷‍♂️
Mushroom Popcorn
Mushroom popcorn is unique because it pops into a circular or mushroom shape and is larger and crunchier than our other varieties. Perfect for caramel corn.

Did not expect to have my feelings hurt by a visualization objectively proving my nonexistence on this network

My bro you are talking about trying to modify human behavior to maintain the quality of the underlying data on a social network.

Human behavior whatever it is, is the data, we structure the systems to serve us not the other way around.

Probably counter to the core design of Twitter and Bluesky but anytime a response of negative sentiment can amplify or reach beyond the thing being responded to seems like a system that will inherently derive engagement off conflict.

You/y’all are absolutely killing it on community comms

Think there might be a good comparison to nutrition and nutrition labels. Obviously lots of factors go into what people buy beyond the wishful rational consumer.

Meanwhile social media companies across the board structurally refuse to answer the question of how often they promote certain content

Oh my god thank you for this one. This topic has been the excruciating intersection of stuff I don’t want to have to understand but must understand anyways. Ready to eat my vegetables.

Not enough separation between speech and reach. Community reacting to the arrival of bad faith actors. Densely connected subgraphs clashing because they don’t have shared understanding or values. A small team just trying to hold it all together.

I don’t work directly with gRPC enough to have a strong opinion but I will say I have worked with lots of brilliant engineers who have made unmaintainable messes out of the message structure because the right abstractions and best practices weren’t obvious or encouraged enough by the design
