They're part of the world, but aren't playing Arthur's game.

Merlin, however, speaks roughly in iambic hexameter (six beats), because he's one step ahead of them.

Dactylic hexameter is the Homeric metre, from the Odyssey and the Iliad, WAY pre-dating Arthur legends, so it suggests he's older or wiser then the others as well.

The Arthurian kids all speak in classic Shakespearean iambic pentameter (five beats), but only to each other.

No one else around them not connected to the Arthur legend does, or is paying attention to them when they do.

My chapter of is called The Avalon, and imagines Arthurian characters as '90s St. John's mallrats, with the Avalon peninsula standing in for the mythical fairy-full island.

I wanted to use their language to help skew the reality and characterize them as well.
