Oh it's going to get much much worse, you're absolutely right. But a lot of people are right to say that the idea that these things have not been part of their social and political life is untrue.

The scale was already getting much worse, and this is going to accelerate that.

I say this as someone who lives in a city that had an active torture black site until very recently that was used to commit extensive political violence on communities over decades and that the state fight to allow to continue operating for the "safety" of majority populations.

I want to be very careful when I say this, because I respect you and the with you do, but these things have very much been a part of US society over the last 49 years, but the communities they impact are not majority communities. This is an expansion of that violence into "safe" places.
