Look at these lovelies who were found foraging in the leaf litter on Staten Island. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. 🪶🦃

Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is "Mr & Mrs" so here we have Mr Red-Tailed Hawk sneaking up behind the Mrs as she perches in a tree. 🪶

I feel we could use a Bluebird of Happiness today. 💙🪶

For today's #BirdOfTheDay theme "Close Up" - an Andean Condor I met last year. The bright sun made her ruby-red eyes glow like hot coals. 🪶

For #BirdOfTheDay I offer up this pigeon. This image is left over from my short-lived campaign to nominate this as our national bird. 😆🪶

Ok, this is cute. MTA celebrates Halloween at the Essex/Delancey station. 🎃

For #TalonTuesday, here is a photo of our local resident male Red-Tailed hawk. I call him Charlie after Charlie "Bird" Parker who lived in the neighborhood. 🪶

This is my new favorite subway ad. The bald eagle barfing up the stars and stripes really defines the current moment.

Today's #BirdOfTheDay is "kestrel" so here is one from my archives: two youngsters getting ready to take their first flight. 🪶

My favorite warbler: the Northern Parula. They're cute little rainbow birds who are usually pretty accommodating for the camera. 🪶

This is one of my favorite bird portraits: a Short-Tailed Hawk. You can see it has an injury to its wing, so it was being cared for. Seen in Pinellas, FL. 🪶

For #BirdOfTheDay here is an American Robin and House Sparrow sharing a bath. The Robin appears to be chewing out the Sparrow for invading its space, and the Sparrow has a "What did I do?" look on its face. 🪶

The upside to not being raptured today is I get to spend more time on this planet with these guys. 🪶

Apparently we're supposed to post yellow birds today. Here's a happy little Hooded Warbler on his quest for insects. 🪶

Let's close out this Tuesday with a Tricolored Heron. This one was seen going to roost just before sunset. 🪶

Let's make this a better week. I'll start with a cheery Northern Cardinal. These birds are common in my area, but are always show-stoppers. 🪶

I never knew until recently that Great Blue Herons can swim. I saw two of them in a lake and thought they were struggling, but nope, just out for a swim. Huh! 🪶

Who needs a spot of fall color today? Here's a cheery little Worm-Eating warbler hanging out on a sea grape branch. 🪶
September 8, 2025 at 11:45 PM
One of my favorite warblers in both spring and fall is the Common Yellowthroat. I find them perched or foraging at eye level more often than other warblers, which makes photographing them much easier. 🪶

It's been another tough week and I've welcomed all the happy little distractions here. Now I'm going to spend the rest of this Friday curled up at the entrance of my safe place and contemplate the universe. Have a good weekend.

Weee! A red-tailed hawk dives towards the camera. I love when they fold their wings to accelerate and form this beautiful shape. 🪶
