A Willerby butterfly
is silently singing
Glad That I Live Am I

only her daisy friends can
hear her loud and clear
and when she takes a bow
they’ll applaud and cheer

and demand an encore,
like they did the last time
and the time before.

I love this - they could have just picked 10 pics, replaced the old, tatty ones and had done with it. But involving the public - and having the local newspaper driving the voting campaign - is a great idea. 💚
📸 Thank you to everyone who's voted so far on the Withernsea Riff-Raff photos project!

Image 13 – the gathering outside Pier Towers – is currently proving most popular. But which ones make YOUR top 10? Tell us here 👇

Caller put the phone down hastily after I said it would be a tenner to put an ad in for a £1,600 electric bike. Then there are those who come out in a fit of the vapours when we ask if they want to advertise with us. People forget that the Gazette is a small local business too.

Fair to say this has been quite the week... I hope we've done it justice.

Also, if anyone fancies chipping into our tip jar @ko-fi.com that'd be marvellous as that front page pic cost a chuffing fortune. Had to be done, though... 🫣 ko-fi.com/holdernessnews

Up to now the BBC News channel has said this happened "off the coast of Hull", interviewed the Hull City Council leader (but not the East Riding leader, as far as I can see and I've been watching it all night), as well as a wildlife expert at Bempton, about 45 miles away... (why not Spurn?). Odd

If you're heading into Beverley for the festival this week, please allow plenty of time. There's heavy traffic at the moment due to roadworks, so we recommend setting out early to beat the rush. After all, you wouldn't want to miss a moment of the amazing music and poetry we've got in store!
