I remember the 'outrage' at Michael Foot's donkey jacket at the Cenotaph.

And he's also dissed a hardback copy of 'Johnny Red', the Hurricane flying saviour of the Soviet Union.
Comics shaped my imagination but it's obviously not been hereditary 🙄

Every Friday my mother would buy me the 'Battle' comic. It introduced me to 'Charley's War' and the #GreatWar
Charley's story transfixed me and shaped my interest in #WW1
I bought my son the hardback series as it was produced but 'Charley' never really got to him and now he's selling them off. 😖

I was there on the 75th anniversary of the taking of Vimy Ridge when the Canadian Prime Minister and the French President appeared. And I kicked myself then and ever since in not speaking to any of the Canadian veterans who were there. And I didn't even get any decent photos of them either 😱. #WW1

Interesting that the image of the chap in the bottom left of the photo is often used as symbol of shell shock.

I've never been a fan of the CWGC website and today's interaction with their app was just nonsense.
Not only does their "prove you're not a Bot" security appear ludicrously difficult, but when into the app, it's not registering any CWGC sites despite me being in Greece and close to Gallipoli 🧐🙄

My errant ball only made the path and not the road on the Road Hole earlier this year.
What a tremendous hole to play with all its history.

The good news is that sun is finally out just down the road at Afytos.
The bad news is that the Germans have invaded and occupied the sun loungers. 🧐

Greek Government Alert just received 🙈🤯🌧💨

A fascinating photograph of a football team at Stobs Prisoner of War Camp near Hawick probably dated 1916-1917.
The players are most likely German prisoners.

Come to Greece they said.
It'll be lovely they said.

30 mph winds, 14 degrees and horizontal rain.
I should have stayed in Scotland 🤣

14th June 2025.
The story was told by one of the girls in the team he was interviewing.
Enjoy!

Call me a pedant BUT I've already decided that this book for sale on Amazon isn't for me.
I thought that the Great song-writer Eric Bogle was the only person who thought that tin helmets were worn at #Gallipoli 😉

Very, very spooky!
A 'tweet' (or whatever the Blue-sky equivalent is) on RADAR immediately followed by another on a RAIDER.
Is Bluesky listing 'tweets' in alphabetical order 🤔

Today I've discovered a couple of brothers in my distant dna family tree who died in the #GreatWar
Frederick Carney of Warwick, Queensland, Australia was killed with the 42nd Bn. AIF at the Battle of Broodseinde on 4 Oct 1917. And Matthew Carney, 26th Bn. AIF who was killed on 3 Oct 1918 in France.
