From Whitehaven, West Cumbria (UK), Local Government systems analyst and Nintendo Switch beginner. Enjoy a real ale, rock/metal gigs and stock car racing. Generally travel by bike and train. A little sea fishing for food is good too.
Went to one of the only two remaining cash machines in our town centre. The card was gobbled up and nothing else happened, now I have no card until a replacement is posted out. Sod the cashless revolution.

Today in 2000 Tesco reintroduced imperial measures in their stores, they still called them stores rather than shops which confuses this point a bit but it was popular with older customers. Some of the modern just bought twice as many carrots than they actually required. Populist decisions age badly.

Hey, someone I’m unfamiliar with has been sacked from a TV show I’ve not watched. If this is real news and masks some true atrocities it says a lot about our society

We have a full size replica of a 1700s wooden Spanish galleon visiting Whitehaven at the moment and very impressive it is.

I’ve been walking with a stick for the last few days, while I hope it’s a temporary thing I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how many people give me a little more space and time.

Minecraft, whatever was all the fuss about. Been trying to learn it on the Nintendo Switch over Xmas. Pretty much unplayable nonsense as far as I can tell. Back on eBay the game will go, life is too short as it is.

Earlier, I watched drivers enter the site of a clearly closed supermarket and leave again. Several dozen did this in an hour, no cyclists or pedestrians joined them. Car dependency reduces the apparent need to plan routine tasks but does not necessarily save us real time whilst doing so.

Wishing a good new year to all. Resolutions? Choose buses over taxis where possible (big saving); Keep spreading the active and public transport message (plain common sense); oh, and loose some weight as usual (and presumably fail as usual).

My favourite e-bike memory to date, amazing what can be moved ten miles with no great problems

Happy Christmas. The traditional day where those with little donate to those who already have so much

King Charles who loves killing foxes, birds, and badgers has been made Patron of the RSPCA.

King Charles used his power to block a ban on Fox Hunting and to make sure it is the joke ban we currently have.

RT if the RSPCA should remove him.

The “E-Bike Effect:” Those who bought e-bikes increased their average daily bicycle use from 2.1km (1.3 miles) to 9.2km (5.7 miles), a 340% increase. The e-bike share of all their transportation increased dramatically too; from 17% to 49%.

E-bikes support fewer car trips.

E-Bikers Ride Much Farther and More Frequently Than Regular Bikers
They are not 'cheating,' but are serious transportation.

I love charity shop bargains, £4 for a new small Bluetooth speaker as the case and USB cable are missing. Works fine and ideal for my travel bag. Beats landfill too. The office ‘cable drawer’ soon yielded what I needed and an old plastic bag completes the job.

Yesterday, for the first time in many years, I was asked how old I am. Well, I’m old enough to remember when we knew Dr Martens as Air Wairs but I’m young enough to still use them for everyday footwear.

An example of the media car culture problem. This should read “Criminal damage by dangerous driver will cost £20000”

Don’t really do Xmas but #treebybike worked in the summer too

What is going on with driving standards. Friday evening a delivery driver drives out of a takeaway car park in front of me on his phone, today the same driver and car park, no lights. Needs to be regarded by society as an earned capability to be respected and maintained, not a right.

Did something different today, a walk to a local pub for an excellent Sunday dinner and then on to another for a few real ales. So much better quality than the corporate chains and keeping money in the local economy.

A dinner time trip to the butchers for a meat roll and cake takes 15 mins and costs £6. Cooking this with the office microwave and kettle takes just 6 minutes and costs £2.50. Cheaper & better so why have I been wasting so much time #winnerwinnerchickendinner #olddognewtricks

Feeling sorry for those affected by storm Bert, although forecast to hit us we have got off lightly so far up in West Cumbria with today being a crazy ten degrees warmer than the same time yesterday. Hope everyone stays safe.

Storm Bert (strange name) has hit, many roads struggling and events cancelled including the gig I was going to this evening. Hope everyone stays safe, a pub afternoon and real ale beckons

Do audiobooks count as reading? I believe so and listen them as well as reading on my kindle. Rarely read paper books as they may not be with me when I have the time or urge. Both take my mind to another place for a break in the same way and audio is great when on the move.

On a trip away so tried a McDonalds breakfast, the customers are as dumbed down as the music. Pure corporate blandness
