Turf guy for the Atlantic Canadian Turf Industry. Former superintendent, former sales guy. If it isn’t fun, reevaluate.
My plot of Tall Fescue is still looking stunning for late January in Nova Scotia. As the climate changes, so does the array of plants that can survive our climate.

You know you are a turf nerd when you test soil samples for 10 years and finally see your first P deficiency showing itself both at the surface and in the soil. It’s like Christmas today. And, with the addition of a small amount of P, the symptoms disappeared right away, just like the doctors say!

This year is going to be better than last year. Our climate, our people, our turf. #HaughnTurf

I keep saying growing grass in Nova Scotia can be challenging and is very unique. Here are a couple good sized reasons grass can struggle. More great improvements as we work to restore the Donald Ross 9 hole White Point Golf. Awesome job getting this done, led by an eager group of member volunteers.

I do love croquet, it’s wicket. 😂

In general, don’t question nice lawns, although I suppose ones that require fungicide should be axed. There is a whole world happening outside your front door for you to get wrapped up and take pride in. Just press pause on the screen and see for yourself!

Take control of your own operation. With a little thought, your budget can go further than you think. Measure to manage.

I have an Australian Labradoodle. Doesn’t shed, hypoallergenic, weighs 40lbs and is so intelligent. I’m no dog trainer, this was important. The trick is to get the small one, they can be big. Best decision my wife ever made for our family. I fought it the whole way, now we are attached at the hip.

A member led rock removal program happening as they revitalize their Donald Ross seaside 9 holes at White Point. Easy to get inspired watching what’s happening there.

All you can eat buffet on this front lawn in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia on a beautiful 10c calm day, certainly not normal for November 26th. What a day to have your sprayers out for winter applications.

Late Fall Civitas use is something I recommend after years of seeing positive effects while in sales. Not only do I believe it helps to protect the plant from extremes over winter, but the difference in the Spring time from treated vs untreated can put you weeks ahead. #checkplots

Received this picture today of the greens officially being put to bed with a heavy coating of sand at Le Portage Golf Club at the entrance to the Cape Breton Highlands. Bring on winter.

How do I know it’s mild in the #Maritimes for November? That’s not normal. This picture was from #Halifax today, yesterday, 1.5 hours South in #Liverpool, the dandelions were everywhere.

To say that #FusariumPatch is starting to pop up around the #Maritimes at many clubs may be an understatement.

Last mow on the lawn for this year. Already getting wear damage from us playing sports. Best season of the 8 years I’ve been growing it. Minimal #chinch damage, great control of weeds with #Fiesta, and #polyon didn’t disappoint in its 1st showing.
