Ochlocracy

Ochlocracy
Rule by the mob. It is the ultimate outcome of populism, referring to governance dominated by crowds driven by passion rather than reason.

Perhaps we are witnessing the rise of a "Kakistocracy"—government by the worst, least qualified, and most unscrupulous citizens. Or is it "Ochlocracy," where the mob rules, fueled not by reason, but by blind fanaticism? We are staring into an abyss that defies all political definition.

A study even shows that avoiding the word "democracy" is more effective for getting people to engage with local news. Are journalism and democracy reeking of rot?
#journalism #democracy

Don’t dwell on “democracy,” and other new findings about how to market local news
"Here’s the paradox: 93% of people believe reliable local news is necessary for democracy, yet many of these same people react negatively to explicit 'democracy' messaging."

Please read the column by Al Jazeera’s Belén Fernández as well. She slams the NYT's publication of these articles as "genocidal journalism."

Yes, The New York Times is committing genocidal journalism
In his latest NYT column, Bret Stephens tries to excuse a uniquely horrific crime with uniquely horrific journalism.

Journalism has a watchdog role, but that alone doesn’t fulfill its responsibility. It must also be a good neighbor to those who are suffering or marginalized. If prison newspapers could be realized in Japan as well, I would be eager to contribute.
