At this rate, Twitter/X in Turkey will soon become a state-manufactured social space, where Erdogan’s regime has effectively silenced much of its dissent.

What remains will be a curated illusion of public discourse, stripped of criticism and opposition.

A policy of geoblocking accounts based on local court orders inevitably turns social platforms into an extension of authoritarian censorship. In countries where the courts serve the ruler, as they're in Turkey, these platforms effectively become a collaborator for censorship.

It’s hard to overstate just how far-reaching the consequences will be not just for Turkey, but across the Middle East, Europe, and beyond.

Things always go horribly wrong when unchecked power falls into the hands of a corrupt, autocratic, and paranoid ruler.
