I actually think it'd the former. Our society has been groomed in a lot of ways to view certain people/identities in a certain light. This is true for who we should find attractive as well. Naturally, not everyone is going to be susceptible to that grooming, but it's still a reality.

You should. You can't cure bigotry with logic, data, or even appeals to humanity. They will only change their minds when it personally affects them (and even then, they'll consider it a "special case").

And the use of "must be really dirty" is perfect because not only can it be taken at face value "[Their room] is really dirty," but it can also show how racism is projected "[They are a] really dirty [person] (physically)" or even "[They are] really dirty (by my moral standards)."

This is just it, I think. When you live in a country that ignores some of the biggest threats to our safety (guns, SA, police brutality, etc.), seeing a country actively implement policies that reduce harm makes people think, "Wow. It must be even worse over there if they're doing stuff to fix it."

In the case of paraphiles, it's absolutely okay to write a story wherein your paraphilia is accepted and enjoyed by all participants and to fully endorse what you're writing. You should not feel ashamed to stand by your work or feel pressured to censor yourself. Others' discomfort is a THEM problem.
