Special delivery from Vault-Tec today, been waiting a whole year for this!

While I haven't really been gelling with the combat, there isn't so much as a single frame of NEVA that doesn't make me want to get back to painting. This game is utterly beautiful—nobody does it quite like Nomada Studio.

Playing through shorter games over the weekend after hoovering up a bunch on sale.

Completed 'Nobody Wants To Die' in two sittings, a solid seven hours that immerses you in a science fiction noir short story. Fantastic concepts, stunning visuals, enjoyable puzzles—really enjoyed my time with this!

HALO: EMPTY THRONE released today!

This is the fourth Halo novel I've had the pleasure of working on, and this one is an absolute beast—characters and story threads many years in the making come to a head while laying foundations for the future.

The vibes of Mass Effect 1 are absolutely immaculate, its clunkiness is one of the things I love most about it. It's a creature only part-way out of its cocoon, caught between what BioWare RPGs had been up to that point with glimmers of the Actions RPGs to come. Forever my fave!

Six hours in and having an absolutely fantastic time with Avowed—combat is really fun, exploration of the world feels great, it's wonderfully vibrant, and I'm always here for Obsidian's storytelling charm.

In 2021, I had the pleasure of working on Halo as part of the incredible Community Team.

Next week, after three amazing years, that great journey ends and a new one begins as I join the Halo Studios Franchise Team. See you in Seattle! 💚💙

Four all-time favourites 👀

Alan Wake's American Nightmare was cool for what it was, I enjoyed it as something of a coda and side story to the first game. That said, replaying the same three levels three times over? Definitely ended up dragging my feet through to the end by the third reset loop.

Onto Alan Wake II at last!

Finished up Alan Wake after I was too chicken to play through it over thirteen years ago. Loved this game, can easily see why it became a cult classic—the way they evolved some of the gameplay elements in the special episodes was fantastic!

Onto Alan Wake's American Nightmare.

An excerpt from a short story released back in February this year celebrating the seventh birthday of Halo Wars 2. This part in particular from Captain Cutter's perspective as a man almost thirty years out of time was a joy to write—almost as much of a as making the UNSC Spirit of Fire's cat canon.

This one's a bit abstract and there's no way to not sound ridiculous describing it... but there's a bit near the end of GRIS where a big sea monster representing grief is chasing you and you get rescued by a pink turtle as the music absolutely soars. That is *the* example that comes to mind for me.

STAR TRUCKER (2024)

I've not had an awful lot of time to play this yet, but "Euro Truck Simulator in space" is just too good of a concept not to get a mention here. I am still trying to master the art of docking with stations.

HELLDIVERS 2 (2024)

I need to jump into the new update, my schedule has taken me away from this game over the last few months, but it's easily the best multiplayer title I've played this year. So happy to see the level of success it's had—always have time for cooperative PvE games like this!

GOLF CLUB WASTELAND (2021)

A simple 2D golf game with stunning artwork and some really fantastic satirical narrative flavor. A fun puzzle platformer in a bleak world ruined by ecological disaster.

COBALT CORE (2023)

Roguelite deck builder that feels like a mix of FTL and Slay the Spire? This scratches a very specific itch that I am going to lose MANY hours to over the holiday break. Highly recommend!

DRAGON AGE: THE VEILGUARD (2024)

The ten-year wait was worth it. Veilguard had one hell of a development cycle, obviously a lot of compromises were made, but I had a fantastic time across the 80 hours of my first playthrough. Also features the best combat in a BioWare game since Mass Effect 3.

GEOMETRY SURVIVORS (2024)

Geometry Wars 2 is one of my favourite games of all time. Somebody had the bright idea of combining that game (and I really mean basically just straight up making a sequel) with Vampire Survivors and the result is glorious, I've been playing this A LOT recently.

LIFE IS STRANGE: DOUBLE EXPOSURE (2024)

Absolutely loved Max Caulfield's return in Double Exposure, Hannah Telle's performance was obviously a stand-out, but I did not expect to fall in love with the other characters so quickly. Very excited about where the series goes from here!

ALAN WAKE (2010)

I've been revisiting Remedy's earlier games, starting with the original Alan Wake. I remember playing this originally back in 2011 and traversing the dark forests scared the shit out of me—I'm not much braver now to be honest, but I am at least able to appreciate it more.

DESTINY 2: THE FINAL SHAPE (2024)

After a decade of investment in Destiny, I really enjoyed the conclusion to the saga.

I've not managed to keep up with the subsequent Episodes, I really felt a sense of closure from this expansion, but I look forward to jumping back in at some point.

VAMPIRE SURVIVORS (2022)

I have been playing this non-stop for the better part of two years now. I am down to just one final achievement—119 out of 120. Been putting off getting the final one, but suffice it to say this game sunk its hooks in deep for me.

🧵 Thread of some of my favourite games I've played in 2024.

NEVA (2024)

GRIS is one of my favourite games of all time, Nomada Studio's follow-up is absolutely stunning—"every frame a painting" couldn't be truer than knowing you're pressing the screenshot button as often as attack.

Started a new Witcher 3 playthrough this weekend, so here's Geralt in the bathtub in 4K 🥲
