The online talks at @cromwellmuseum.bsky.social are always worth watching but given #PatrickWymark's multiple Cromwell's on-screen we'll certainly be watching this one.

This reminds me of #MarkGatiss as Les McQueen in the LEAGUE OF GENTLEMEN stage show doing the elaborate extended intro (except Gatiss had a better punchline).

I first came across this XL5 strip as a complete story in the COUNTDOWN Summer Special (1971) and it works well as such - Roger Perry states that it was commissioned to give Noble a holiday, though he joined TV21 after the event downthetubes.net/eagle-daze-t...

At 6:35 am on Friday 15 November, @talkingpicturestv.bsky.social
is showing THE GOLDEN DISC followed at 8:10 am by an interview with 1960's singer #TerryDene - I wonder if they'll cover that time in 1988 when Terry had his identity stolen by a Cleethorpes club manager?

November 1967: #PatrickWymark appeared in a 10 minute film shown at cinema intermissions. In For A Penny, In For A Pound showed how paper poppies were made for the Poppy Day Appeal and the residential rehabilitation homes run by the British Legion Haigh Fund.

In 1973 I got this 1966 Charlton FANTASTIC GIANTS comic reprinting both GORGO and KONGA. As the newsagent also had Charlton's REPTILICUS #1 from 1961, I guess some warehouse was having a clearout. As Tony McKay relates in #LSOH, GORGO only hit UK TV in 1981.

Enjoying #LSOH #52 - #AnthonyMcKay 's 200+ page dissertation on #GORGO (1960) - includes @stephenrbissette.bsky.social 's feature on the Charlton comics, which was how I first encountered GORGO (McKay relates how UK censors made the child centered film unsellable in UK with X certificate) .

Just for a second I thought @talkingpicturestv.bsky.social had found a black and white episode of HOME TO ROOST! @reecedinsdale.bsky.social #JohnThaw

Eve's mum in #EastEnders moaning about £20 for a bottle of wine in the pub. Obviously because she's from somewhere 'Up North'. But the BBC could at least have had one of their helpline voiceovers at the end tell us which pubs Up North sold this cheap wine.

For old technology fans, this vintage hardware from the 1973 pilot of THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN will evoke some memories. "Mmmm - tomato soup!"

To do a 'Dr Who Fan' - ahh Martin Balsam, the original Dr Rudy Wells in the SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN pilot.

Thanks to @accordingtojond.bsky.social for pointing out that Kneale was quoted in @mrgeetsromo.bsky.social 's INTO THE UNKNOWN (don't agree about Barbara Kellerman - one of my complaints was that Kneale killed her off - but there you go).
November 3, 2025 at 10:09 AM
Watching QUATERMASS, I've only just realised that Kneale would have known #SimonMacorkindale from the BABY episode of BEASTS, and @andrewscreenbskys.bsky.social 's book shows that Macorkindale's character was written as a twat, so did Kneale intend Kapp to be a hysterical twat too?

Looking at this promotional lobby flyer for NIGHT OF THE DEMON, I wonder if this kind of thing was an inspiration for the newspaper format of TV CENTURY 21?
November 1, 2025 at 12:10 AM
Thanks to @woodg31.bsky.social for reminding me of the first* screening of NIGHT OF THE DEMON on British TV. I remember my mother telling me beforehand about seeing it in the cinema and how THIS shot made everyone jump ! (* confirmed in Sheldon Hall's ARMCHAIR CINEMA).

Director Mike Leigh (Peterloo, Vera Drake) was born in 1943 in Brocket Hall, the location of villain Karswell's lair in NIGHT OF THE DEMON (1957). The Hall served as a maternity home during the war. Has any other director been born in a movie location?

BLOOD ON SATANS CLAW Bluray from 88 Films. Unlike the love-in's for discs of new movies, special features on archive discs can give perspective. #WendyPadbury relates being pressured into doing the scene I usually ff through. Set dresser #MillyBurns details behind-the-scenes elitism.

Watching 88 Films luscious Bluray of BLOOD ON SATANS CLAW #PatrickWymark #LindaHayden. Good to see reference to Robert Wynne Simmons's novelization in the special features and commentary by Vic Pratt & Will Fowler.

I've been reading MUNICIPAL GOTHIC by @raynewman.bsky.social - 13 supernatural stories, all original and varied in approach. But I think if TALES OF THE UNEXPECTED was still on the go and #RonMoody was available, the one called 'Director's Cut' would have gone down well round here.
