I'm Ava and I'm a trained public historian in Albuquerque trying to turn my opinions into YouTube videos and rekindle some old dreams while managing complex chronic illness 🐑 Hampshire College alum 🐑

I'm trying to escape the clutches of Facebook *and* connect/reconnect with people, so I'll just leave my contact details here, since BlueSky is a nice, reasonable platform that doesn't demote posts for mentioning other social media sites
This potato temptation is whispering to me that the New York Times is clearly pulling out all the stops to tempt us to visit its website in spite of, let's say, *inconsistent* editorial standards that are an increasingly widespread cause for concern

Watching the livestream as Hasan Piker made his way through a packed crowd outside when leaving the Zohran victory party, I found myself panicking a little disproportionately... and that was the moment when I realized that this was probably the wrong week to start rewatching Deadwood

Why do video sponsorship ads for June's Journey always give me panic attacks?? I don't even know which trauma is the culprit here so it's an exciting mystery

The last boat of the Global Sumud Flotilla is still heading toward Gaza. It's daylight there, and the crew of the Marinette have put on their life vests, because they can see war ships approaching, and they expect to be intercepted imminently. Witness their courage: www.youtube.com/live/U4KG_oi...

One boat sails on ❤️

It's amazing that one of the boats has made it so close to the shores of Gaza. It would be truly astonishing if they made landfall, but what if they can? What if they do? I don't think we should underestimate the significance of that victory - or even of the accomplishments of the flotilla already
BREAKING: The Global Sumud Flotilla says one vessel, Marinette, is “still sailing strong.” Over the last 24 hours, 21 boats were confirmed intercepted and 20 presumably intercepted.

POV you're handstitching the hem of a cherry blossom print curtain panel while listening to TrueAnon talking about Pete Hegseth in between tangents, until you are compelled to exclaim, out loud, to absolutely nobody:

"NoooooooOooooo do NOT grok the Megyn Kelly!"

The oval office right now is very reminiscent of a school play where the lead has been struck with stage fright and everyone else is scuttling around them trying to fill in the gaps because the show must go on

I wonder how my mother-in-law in Corrales feels about this development and whether she has ever developed even a shred of regret for her actions toward this same end on a smaller scale. Not that I'm bitter or anything~
The people who should be institutionalized are the deeply unwell Nancy Mace and Ronny Jackson.

this from my piece on charlie kirk is probably the most important takeaway if you want to know why bad faith, right-wing voices in media are treated as just another set of peers

The only thing Charlie Kirk had in common with Jesus is that Christians get mad when you quote him to them.

Feel like I’m going insane with the revisionist history that Charlie Kirk fostered open debate. He chilled speech and his targeting of professors for wrongthink led to threats, harassment, and being forced out of their jobs. His legacy is chilling speech right now, about him

New Mexico mention! 🩵
New Mexico's economy is a fraction of the size of New York City's.

If they can enact universal childcare — and relieve working families of a crushing cost burden — surely we can too.

It's just a question of political will.
New Mexico will be the first state to make child care free
The program, which is expected to save families $12,000 per child annually, is available to all residents regardless of income.

security did not save charlie kirk.
a vest would not have saved charlie kirk.

the only thing that would have saved him is if our administrations actually had reasonable gun control in the aftermath of the last hundred school shootings.

I'm genuinely confused at so much of my feed being filled with "Don't celebrate Charlie Kirk being shot **because** this gives Trump the go ahead to violently crush opposition." Did you mean to add "faster" to the end of that sentence? Like, he wasn't waiting for an impetus. It's happening already

Why does this YouTube ad for cargo pants seem to be a thinly disguised display of somebody's zipper fetish?? Limited monetization videos make for some interesting advertising interruptions

...did the moldiest man in America just return Soggy Codfish to internet relevancy?

GamerGate is a plague that has never gone away. Almost like a pandemic that becomes an epidemic because that is the "efficient" choice made by the capitalist oligarchs. For example.

Maybe it's just my face-blindness, but... doesn't Pete Buttigieg kind of look like an alternate universe version of Asmongold? I don't know what to do with this observation

My Facebook feed just delivered me a post with a quote from Trump where he was sulking about no one having said thank you for his allegedly sending food aid to the starving children of Gaza... which was immediately followed by a literal ad for literal baby formula.

This is so dystopian.

I'm amused to discover that I consistently have a trauma response to watching Elissa Slotkin spew condescending disinformation. It's incredible how much she reminds me of my wife's aunt, a moderately famous diplomat whom I once told off in her own kitchen in Santa Fe. What a Christmas that was!

I just had a truly horrifying moment of face-blindness-related confusion of mistaken recognition, and y'all, it was so genuinely disturbing that I don't think it would be right to inflict the concept on anyone else so all I will say is: two men with wide chins and extremely divergent vibes. 🤐
