The big photo is cherry trees at the MLK Memorial. The small one is a duck at the FDR Memorial.
Glad to say that this strategy completely failed in Virginia this fall with a historic 15-point defeat of the GOP candidate, Winsome Earle-Sears, who spent months exclusively running anti-trans ads with zero results. www.nbcwashington.com/news/politic...

It's also weird in Virginia and elsewhere w/ so many "lost" groups (young men, Latinos, Asians, etc.) veering Dem-ward, contradicting groupthink.

Was 2024 simply a case of coming to an NFL game with a nonviable quarterback, subbing in a new one too late, and being shocked you lost? Plus inflation?

This would be a hard no from the commonwealth as a whole, and from the entirety of that Senate district in particular.

Oh come on, if it weren’t a searing indictment but instead a nostalgia piece glorifying a bygone era, then it would be full of nostalgic photos of watering holes and celebrities who frequented them and a long soft-focus article full of almost longing for….. uh…. okay yeah yep.

So in that scenario, nobody would have health insurance.

If they are healthy, they keep the money; if they have a serious illness or accident, they can't pay for treatment, go bankrupt, and experience serious harm or death.

Hmmm, seems like someone should be able to get health insurance instead.

I liked the interview. I can't put it better than @ Peter Sagal:
It is annoying to me how people leap on a sentence pulled out of (in this case) an hour-plus conversation and immediately slot the speaker into a pre-existing category of Enemy. Here is the entire talk.

Until the 80s or 90s, most newspapers ran black and white photos, so when you go to the archives, many news photos were taken that way. The first NY Times front page with color photos was in 1997.

You're absolutely right, though, that we should lift up any color photos or film, news or otherwise.

I think he's talking about combining both a focus on identity and an overarching message, while also talking about fighting for rights for all groups. Worth listening to. www.texastribune.org/2025/11/14/p...

Intrigued by this, so I just discovered your "Virginia: The Day After" video on State Navigate's YouTube channel, the "live" section.

Thank you for everything you and your team did this Virginia Election Day, and the day after. I hope there was pizza for all.

It's not the same paper we used to know. That's gone. Think of it as similar to the Wall St. Journal but perhaps even that is insulting the Wall St. Journal. It's a huge tragedy, but the paper I grew up with has 'died in darkness' due to fear and greed from a guy who stood up against Trump 1.0.

It's from August. That was an accurate poll that showed something Democrats were committing to might be, ironically, causing Republicans to back off.

Reporting the truth is a basic value and I'm glad he did so. That might even have helped Dems adjust their message. Because it's no longer true now.
