Flemish liberal party Open VLD has a new leader: Frédéric De Gucht, the lead negotiator in the ongoing talks to form a Brussels government and son of former Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht, was elected Friday with 91 percent of the vote.

“Liberals are in the firing line,” De Gucht said.

vdL devoted her first State of the European Union address to her plans to use the pandemic as a catalyst for positive change.
