This isn’t about public health or safety. It’s about using the opioid crisis and border fears to justify more control over already-marginalized people.

More "oversight" often just means more state power—not real accountability or justice for our communities.

It tightens asylum and refugee access, criminalizing people fleeing war, occupation, or violence—many of whom come from racialized and Muslim-majority countries.

It reinforces the dangerous idea that safety means more policing, more borders, and fewer rights.

It expands police and border powers, increasing surveillance of Muslim and Black people—especially Muslim women—who have long been targeted by discriminatory security practices.

Since 9/11, Muslim and Black communities in Canada have faced increased surveillance, racial profiling, and systemic over-policing—all under the guise of "national security." Bill C-2, the Strong Borders Act, continues this harmful legacy.
