I doodle.
I'm also a mender. I can't fix the world, but I can darn your sock and make you a cup of tea.

The main rule of mending is to only sew into undamaged fabric.

If you want to create a balanced look you could take out the seam on the other side and do matching alterations.

Pick a woven fabric that has stretch and make sure the stretch is horizontal when sewing it on.

The holes are called eyelets if there is thread embroidered around the holes to secure them. So probably an eyelet fabric. Search term "Men's eyelet shirt"

I'm afab and I don't shut up about proper fitting bras. I'll evangelize to pretty much anyone about getting a real bra fitting (ie, not at VS).
I was shamed as a kid about bras/bra shopping/my boobs so I'm really loud about how it shouldn't be a shameful topic. They're just boobs & bras.

I have a singer patchwork and it does the job, but I wish I had gone with a brother in the same price range. The shop I took some lessons from later used brothers and they were very sturdy.

Oh, and here's what it looks like on the back. I have no idea what I'm doing with embroidery on knit but I do wish more mending included photos of the back.

I used knots and tucked the tails under the embroidery.

May I suggest sashiko? Many of the one-stitch patterns are very repetitive and soothing. They are meditative all on their own for me.

I like swiss darning the most, it's like a puzzle for my brain to line things up.

I've also been trying out some sashiko and blackwork type mending when I catch something wearing thin or when a patch is a good option.

The weaving sock darning is a chore for me too though.

This would be awesome. I wish I knew how to connect with folks that would want to come over for mending

We technically need coalitions but man, I don't want to put up with anyone who, for example, thinks the systematic persecution of trans people is a "both sides" issue. Or someone who has a hissy fit over the term white fragility.

I've experienced groups trying to "have a big tent" but in doing so are asking minorities to "be the bigger person" in the face of racism and bigotry. So the groups drive away minorities and end up filled with people unwilling to change their behaviors.

I don't know what the solution is.

Yes, sorry I worded it badly, the weaving patterns of sashiko-ori are based on the look of sashiko mending.

There may be more info on the insta post of the aged shirt, I don't have insta so I'm not able to check.

Mending things keeps me moving forward even when other things feel insurmountable

Sashiko-ori is a folk weaving technique that creates a durable and warm fabric. I think the patterns are inspired by sashiko, but not 100% sure on that.
