Possible Aurora tonight and a few Aurigid meteors left over from the peak last night radiating from the constellation Auriga - look for bright capella in the north east.
I've not made a slide for these as the peak has passed.

The 'great rift' in the Milky Way is clearly visible from Deneb, down towards the centre of the galaxy in Sagittarius, and beyond!

Ursa Major is now the 'right way up' in Plough pose. Some of the southern summer stars have dipped below the horizon. The summer triangle - Deneb, Vega and Altair is prominent in the southwest.

Saturn is in opposition this month, and so at its highest and brightest in our skies.Saturn and Neptune are in opposition, and so at their highest and brightest in our skies. Cassiopeia is high in the northern sky, with Cepheus hanging upside down from the Milky Way above Polaris, the North Star.

September' night sky 🌕✨🔭

We are back into eclipse season, and there will be a total lunar eclipse and a partial solar eclipse this month - though the solar eclipse will only be visible from the southern Pacific region and not from the UK and Ireland.

Mars will become a dim evening star, Jupiter will become lost in the dusk by the end of the month. But we have much to look forward to; the ETA Aquarids meteor shower,
The milkyway core, elusive night shining clouds, conjunctions and bioluminescent plankton under starry skies✨

Friday marked one year since Alyn Wallace left us to be in the stars. A few mutual friends and I made a pilgrimage to his newly erected memorial art installation above Craig goch dam, Elan valley, it was so lovely to meet his brother there too! We miss you buddy! X
