Emmy & Peabody Award-winning TV reporter & anchorman. Retired from CBS 5 TV News in San Francisco and 10 other newsrooms including The Washington Post.
That time I was on Dick Cheney's airplane and asked him how he could run on a GOP platform that would deny his own lesbian daughter protection from discrimination. He said he loved his daughters and didn't support discrimination. I don't think he'd been asked that before.

Most of the time I’ve edited TV interviews it’s to cut out the rambling clutter that people drift into, so it not only saves airtime but it also inadvertently makes the interview subject seem more articulate and knowledgeable. Now we’ll just see what bumbling buffoons they are.

It's too bad the Democrats aren't alive to see all this.

Now that Kamala Harris has decided not to run for CA governor I hear L.A. billionaire Rick Caruso is seriously considering jumping in, rather than running for L.A. mayor again. He may have a better chance winning statewide than in L.A., and he clearly wants elected office. Let's see if I'm right.

My husband, artist Roger Groth, just created this suggestion for my former employer's logo.

Watching "Good Night, and Good Luck" last night on @cnn.com my heart broke for another era. I was proud to work CBS for 25 years but I'm watching its standards and history evaporate, especially if they pay the bribe to Trump that he wants.

I love @karaswisher.bsky.social but can’t this tech genius do better on @cnn than 1950’s headphones?

I'm proud to be part of this new mural on the wall at @kpixtv.bsky.social in S.F. capturing the station's broadcast history. All I ever wanted in my career was to work at a really cool TV station in a really cool city. I was given that and so much more. I'm filled with gratitude.

The @cannesfilmfestival.bsky.social begins today. In 2019 our documentary film "5B," about the first AIDS ward in the nation at S.F. General, premiered here to a standing ovation. We won the Grand Prix Award out of 830 entries. So proud of this team.

If you're dismayed about the national scene there is often hope locally. Cities like Palm Springs are a real respite. Here's my weekend column.
Here's some good news: Palm Springs is booming
Depressed by the national news? Time to switch your focus to local, where there's an amazing story unfolding, Hank Plante urges.

Imagine how cruel it is to someone who voted for the guy because eggs were expensive and trans athletes were running rampant and vulnerable white people were being forced to endure diversity. Now his pension and 401K is gone and he's going to be working at Burger King into his 80s. How fair is that?

Proud of my City of Palm Springs for putting up these banners around town.

After so many big institutions have cowered to Trump (CBS, ABC, The WashPost, Columbia U., the Paul, Weiss law firm), bravo to the @theatlantic.com & @jeffreygoldberg.bsky.social for having guts & integrity. Subscribing to it sends a message. www.politico.com/news/2025/03...
The country’s most powerful institutions are bowing to Trump. The Atlantic just backed him into a corner.
The president has used a strongman playbook to bring universities, news organizations and law firms to heel. That didn’t work on The Atlantic.

A welcome addition to the book shelf: the Cannes Film Festival "Grand Prix" (the Cannes "Lions Award"). We won it for the documentary "5B," about S.F. General's Ward 5B, the first AIDS ward in the nation, which I covered as a reporter. The film is available to watch on Amazon Prime.

Trump should realize that taking #Canada would add 10 new states and 20 new mostly Democratic senators. #CanadaUSTradeWar

I've always been proud to have started my career at The Washington Post, so it's heartbreaking for me to see the paper's reputation die so the owner can protect his other business interests. Ben Bradlee and Mrs. Graham would be apoplectic.

California State Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara might be the single most incompetent politician I’ve ever seen.
I fear his action today will mean cancellation for those who still have @StateFarm coverage.

Sen. Gary Peters from my home state of Michigan just announce he's not running for re-election next year. Can we finally get the great Michigan resident Pete Buttigieg to run for the job?!!!

The two genders are "Her" and "Himmler."
my “there are only two genders” tshirt is raising a lot of questions about the number of genders, which is indicated on my shirt
that moment when gender is definitely an unchangable biological truth so you have to enforce it via fascistic law
