I thought I was being so reasonable to be like “yall are being pretty weird here” and then they were like “yes, good, a secondary target.”

I think occam's razor here gives us "The people with the power would like to keep the power and also have more of it" and left wing politics were never going to help them with that.

Are the backfilling with a bunch of EA/ACC stuff? Sure. But the billionaires were never gonna be based.

Well, obviously. We'll all live to be 500. What better message could there be to sell to the wealthy!

I got one of those jobs but then I had a CHILD.

Always a little terrifying to find out if I got something totally wrong. I think I ended up deleting my commentary on this video because I was so mean about this girl's spanish pronunciation 😅

The journalist did much, much, much more work than she did.

We’re in an atrocious information environment. These platforms are sucking absolutely everything dry. I can’t find myself blaming this young woman for telling a good story when 3 billionaires are optimizing our entire society to consume more ads.

I have watched this video and I have to say…this does not bother me. Modeling how to find good information to an audience of people who get information from TikTok while actively praising the work of a journalist is better than like 99% of the people who pretend to be journalists on TikTok.

The guy who wrote it is taking it well (or at least pretending to!)

But stopping prices from going up more would also be good!!

It’s really really different county to county. In broward county seasonals are single family homes and condos for snowbirds. In NYC they’re fancy apartments for rich people. In upstate Michigan they’re hunting cabins.

The total US occupancy rate is about 90%. You may be misremembering the stat that more than 50% of unoccupied homes (not all homes) in many counties are seasonal housing / second homes / vacation rentals.

Most U.S. Vacant Housing Is Seasonal Housing
The largest category of vacant housing is seasonal housing, from beachfront homes to part-time residences.

But somehow we can make data centers happen, no problem. Insane that we are building giant boxes that eat jobs when we could be building cities.

I’ve done this thought experiment. Turns out, every square inch of America with enough water to do this has incumbent homeowners with 100% of the political power in that area.
December 6, 2025 at 4:52 PM
It does and it’s important, especially because they are often cheaper homes and it sets a floor for the price. It can be very important for certain communities but you’re right that this effect is nationally dwarfed by the effects of high interest rates, labor shortages, zoning, and local opposition

Hahah! Did you give me a nice “in LA we don’t say hi to famous people” smile, because I think I remember that!
