Chahta, Oklahoman, old crank. Please remember to close the gate or the sheep will get loose.
Speaking as someone who sails the high seas, it’s not a solution at scale. Media piracy benefits from most people paying for it. As soon as it starts to meaningfully affect corporate profits, there will be a crackdown on the most accessible torrent and usenet services.

Jokes on them, I already have comfort games in every genre. Ain’t gotta buy shit to get my digital dopamine.

Both Drunken Master movies with Jackie Chan were amazing. This is a good pick.

I bought SaGa Frontier for PS1, loaned it to a friend, and never saw either one again. I haven’t played it to this day. The dangers of physical media.

I’m 42, and the Adventures of Pete and Pete had an outsized impact on little Hank.

I love FF6, it’s the peak of the series, but I don’t know that it needs a remake. I don’t know that I trust modern Squaresoft to revisit that particular story.

Having a car is fine. I HATE needing a car. I hate that so much of the infrastructure of American life depends on car traffic. Let me walk to the store. Let me walk my kids to school. Let me have protected bike lines/trails. My hometown is actively hostile to pedestrians and bike-riders.

I thought there was a classic mode - is it classic as in PS1 version then? No War of the Lions content? I guess it was kind of a contentious remaster but there were some things I liked about it.

oh man, good job. I kept going back to college chemistry and thinking "Significant heat? That doesn't sound right..."

I figured out what I was missing, and played through the whole thing start to finish over about a week. Amazing experience. I had something happen like that with Xenogears, too. There was a whole period where a little thing could stall you and there weren't internet resources to help out.

I loved Illusion of Gaia. I got it for a birthday when I was a kid, the year it came out. When I first played, was missing a mechanic / didn't understand something early on, and I basically put it down and didn't touch it again for six months.

I love old Silver Surfer comics. So moody and angsty, but still heroic! I loved reading those when I was a kid.

In any case, I'm trying to find a job in a relatively niche field that's laying people off in favor of digital automation, and hoping I can either skill-up or reskill in order to find something that pays enough to keep up with the mortgage, utilities, and cost of healthcare.

I honestly believe that inflation caused by tariffs and enshittification, alongside the housing crisis, the squeeze on student loan borrowers and the inability to afford college tuition, and the unemployment spike that will be created by generative AI / LLMs is going to cause a new econ. depression.

I don't think my company or any of these companies really hopes to completely eliminate my department or most affected departments - I think the goal is to get headcount down to 20% of its original number, to eliminate lower-level techs and engineers and leave only elite engineers for emergencies.

This is not a single company - this is an entire industry pushing people to automate themselves out of jobs. At a time when wages are stagnant and inflation keeps revving up, the latest technological innovation is looking to put large numbers of skilled workers out of work.

The tool is trained on the articles and documentation we wrote, and is designed to be a first reference for level 1 analysts - basically to answer questions on complex issues. A manager told me before I was let go that writing documentation and articles would be a primary metric in the future.

I don’t know how anyone who saw Leah Braums meet Leah Braums: Holo-waifu and didn’t die of secondhand-embarrassment for all the humans involved. Absolute character assassination

I keep hearing about how we should help kids learn to use LLMs to help with research, and maybe I’m a Luddite, but it seems like part of education should be to develop critical thinking and data processing skills, not to learn how to offload them to opaque algorithms owned by robber barons
