Nature lover. Was an organic, wildlife friendly gardener: no chemicals; peat free; minimal digging & mowing.
No true peace without justice.
English & proud European.
Born in Hampshire, now living back in Surrey so hubby can care for me.
Not been feeling up to saying much lately. Very tired and sleepy, but not much happening. Have family here with me who can update as necessary. Thank you for all your love and good wishes. Karin xx

I finally made it home, perhaps an hour ago. I’m very tired now.

The beginning of Saturday’s sunset through the hospital window from my bed. I’ve been in since Thursday lunchtime.
New treatment tried yesterday which has made me feel a bit better and a bit less tired. With luck I can home today, but that’s not definite.
I was lucky to have been given a fan.

If you listen carefully with the volume turned up you can hear wrens, which have been serenading me sporadically, just outside my window.

I’ve changed bedrooms so now I have a view of the back garden and can hear the magpie family on the roof. The young ones are in the process of fledgling.

The district nurse who came yesterday organised for a hospital bed to be delivered today. This means I shan’t have to keep pushing myself into the upright position to be comfortable.

Oriental poppies: the pale one is Royal Wedding; the peachy one is Princess Victoria Louise.
I took these photos a couple of weeks ago.

This flower bed is full of grass but the red Lupins, red & yellow Geums, Salvia hot lips, the pale yellow plant (Sisyrinchium?) & Potentilla are doing well. The grass has helped keep moisture locked in during the dry Spring. Sneezewort, or something similar, is doing well near the lupins, too.

Some beautiful wild flowers planted at the @wealddownmuseum.bsky.social I’ll probably be too tired to post Sunday.

So pleased I was able to get to the @wealddownmuseum.bsky.social today and enjoy it in this lovely weather.
We took salads from Waitrose as the food in the cafe was too heavy for me these days. I managed to enjoy an ice cream though.

A horse chestnut tree in flower is a thing of beauty.

I had to see the oncologist yesterday. The hospital was half way to RHS Wisley from where we live (I’m staying with hubby now) so we went there for lunch. As we could borrow a wheelchair I was able to see a lot of the gardens while hubby pushed me around after lunch. Much more than I’d expected!

We have hawthorn in our hedge.

Photos I took on the way to the sycamore gap and after I turned around because I found the walk along the wall too steep. The third one is the stand of trees by the car park. I later discovered there was a much flatter walk.

A little bit of Wisteria, and a lot of bamboo, to wish you a Happy Easter 🐣

I’m not sure what the little blue flower is, but it grows well on the rockery in my old garden. The candy stripe dwarf phlox is pretty too.

Lovely to see these cuckoo flowers/milkmaids in a fenced off area of grass the other day.

A fox walked past us as we were eating breakfast then up the steps and into the garden. A little while later he ran up to the top of the garden, after a squirrel which escaped to the trees and looked down at him/her.

When trees aren’t close together coppiced wood can be used to make this kind of structure, “coppiced coups”, seen on Hants & IoW Wildlife Trust’s Instagram page.

I might not have a rockery anymore but this small dry slope is great for small, creeping Phlox in different shades of pink, the bright blue Lithospermum (in the same family as borage) and a bright pink Thrift.

Blossom in the back garden, previously my parents’ garden.
The pear tree, morello cherry and peach tree.
