Well this looks like a lovely place to spend a holiday and… I’m sorry, the *what* bungalows?!

It says it’s a “Pilates Machine”, but the only time I’ve seen something with this many harnesses and straps was in a certain establishment in Berlin.

It's 25th October, which means it's time to send That Post on @class507.org.uk again.

FINALLY, my body can have the smell I’ve always wanted: the clean fresh scent of breakfast.

The good news is Ceefax is still up. #AWSoutage

Not a massive fan of air travel, but when you’re gazing out of the window and see the clouds part to reveal the twinkling lights of a city far below, it is rather magical.

Back at the airport. Just time to load up with some contraband before heading back to the UK 😉

Another day, another bunker — this time the Cold War-era nuclear bomb shelter hidden in Pankstraße U-Bahn station. Again, no photos allowed inside so you’ll have to settle for these pictures of the bits visible to the public, including the ventilation shaft and entrance building.

Nice of the Berlin city council to name a street after me.

I’m in Berlin, so a Döner Kebab had to be consumed at some point

Finally, three days in! Disappointed in myself that it took this long, to be honest.

My new favourite story about postwar Berlin concerns the flak tower in Humboldthain that the French forces wanted to demolish.

They tried to blow it up, but the structure was so strong that only half of it collapsed, so they left the rest standing and landscaped the rubble around it to make a hill.

Just did the “Berliner Unterwelten” tour of the WW2-era air raid shelter hidden away under Gesundbrunnen U-Bahn station.

No photos allowed on the tour, so take my word for it that it was fascinating. A whole world hidden behind an anonymous green door.

Rathaus Spandau Station is just showing off, frankly.
October 1, 2025 at 10:48 AM
Travelled out to Spandau because I heard that the far end of the U7 had some splendid station designs.

I was not disappointed. 😍

Things I learned today: Berlin has a station named for the composer of the Blankety Blank theme tune.

Walked the route of the Landwehr canal today. A long walk (especially as I took a wrong turn out of the U-Bahn and took 30 minutes to find the canal itself) but worth it

After getting up at 4:30 for an early flight, it might have been a strategic error to book a tour which involved two hours of walking around buildings with steep staircases. BUT the Tempelhof Airport tour was fascinating, a real peek into a slice of Berlin’s history.

Still got hours before I can check in to my hotel, so heading to the old Tempelhof Airport. Here is the Berlin Airlift Memorial

I’ve been Deutsche Bahned already 🙄
September 29, 2025 at 9:15 AM
Up at 4:30am to get to the airport for 5:30. 🥱 Totally worth it to head off to Berlin for a few days. 😁

Celebrating the 200th anniversary of the railway by running a replacement bus service. 🤔
