sarcoscyphaaustriaca is another species of scarlet #elfcupmushrooms and these ones are saprobes that lie hidden in the leaf litter and can be easily missed. We found a jackpot of these in #dundasvalleyconservationarea on the Main Loop #mycosky #fungifriends

New year's photo highlights. Some of my favourite pictures I took this year, having discovered close to 200 species of mushroom.

I just love these types of gills- adnate with subdecurrent teeth. They're just so magical to behold. Found a lot of these growing in a ditch in leaf litter. These are proper winter mushrooms, flourishing from late autumn until early spring.

Hello #fungifriends, today we have a lovely #xylariapolymorpha or dead man's finger. Some fungi, like this one, have two reproductive stages, which caused taxonomic confusion before genetic sequencing was available.

#mycenalaeiana or orange mycena, discovered at Dundas Valley earlier this summer. The pigment leainafulvene, which gives them their colour has antibiotic properties. Mushrooms are truly magical to me, a new frontier.

Gilded brittlegill, #russulaurea found at Buttermilk Falls in #hamont. The overall yellow tone of Russula aurea distinguishes it from inedible Russulas, such as the bloody brittlegill, the sickener, and the beechwood sickener.

Immature fruiting body of a cinnamon bracket. #hapalopilusrutilans is a polypore with neurotoxic effects. It bleeds this lovely purple and is used as a natural dye. Found in #hamont. It looks quite alien and otherworldly to me.

My favourite mushroom. It's such a magical species with over 23,000 sexes and complex mating systems. Some research suggests it may be a Species Complex.

Possible #tuloseus species in the group #psathyrellacae found growing out of mulch placed in a man-made wetland. No similar organisms present. Stipe was extremely bulbous. Pruinose, brown gills. Mycelium visible at foot. I don't think it's fairy bonnet
