A lot of the initial photos and news immediately after the storm focused on the Forest Park area, but make no mistake -- this storm walloped north city. At least 16 calls for collapsed buildings, all of them north of Delmar.

This is a regular and predictable outcome of how our region handles transportation. We can't yet assess the driver's intent here but we can sure speak of those whose job is traffic safety--their indifference is violence, albeit at the structural, not interpersonal, level

I wonder if's a miscommunication, the zip board they used also comes in red but big box stores usually only carry the green. Other than being ugly it's a good choice for this application

Love it. Not mentioned in the article is the need for careful attention to structural details along the skinny side of the house; there's just not area for braced wall panels alone to arrest lateral movement

On state roads, MODOT has jurisdiction. Everything else defaults to fed OSHA. The City has no room to talk because their own infra divisions will just put cones in front of a big hole in the street. and walk away. Enforcement occurs in the civil courts

Yes. It's the contractor's. (in this case, Gershenson's) responsibility to set up a traffic control zone that delineates the work area and clearly indicates the path of the traffic revision, which routinely does not happen on City streets because of a lack of enforcement

I get the complaint but I'd also say that if area drivers were in the habit of slowing down and paying attention (which is the intent behind the curbs), this would not be an issue, we would not need the curbs

We'll see how Bert does as we look toward integrating the flock later in the summer.
