Two days 'til Summer Solstice and still new flowers appearing. I think these are both Sweet William, but I'm not 100% sure about the pink one.

I feel like I've just regressed back into my mid-20s. All I can think about are Canadian bikes & Mexican food.

Has anyone watched any David Lynch films this week?
I've got an old DVD of the Straight Story, I think I'll watch it tonight.
200+ miles on a John Deere lawnmower makes so much more sense to me than anything else at the moment.

And warm! I was just thinking you might get some weekend lessons from people like that, that are semi-retired.

I've been reading this one. She spent a decade working in the FCO, then she rescues and bottle feeds a leveret during lockdown.

Birch is a lovely wood to carve and it always has little surprises. The little tufts, winds or wiggles in the grain are probably part of it's strength and longevity. But it continually defies attempts to impose symmetry or geometric outlines on it.
This is probably true of other things too.

I received the first Christmas card today. (Bullfinches at Stack Point, Falmouth by Matt Johnson.) I went outside to put the envelope in the recycling and saw a pair of Bullfinches perched on a Bush! Art imitating nature.

There is that one perfect Christmas gift that you can only find for yourself.
Not only are these back in stock, they already have the initials HK on the handle. Can't be a coincidence, can it?

It's scary how rapidly I've made the transition from Calvin to Calvin's dad. Probably less than 3 years.

After some hunting, I've managed to find a copy of this book. Now that I'm reading it, I've got a memory of someone making a short film using the book. It would've been in Dundee, possibly around 2009. Does anyone remember the film?

A nice little piece of hawthorn. I'm not sure if it wants to be a scoop that curves to the left, or a spoon that curves to the right. Any suggestions?

I always like it when the first frost arrives. All the fields and footpaths, firm up and become passable. Plants have gone dormant and it's time to start planting.

Every time I make a cup of tea, a little flock of Sparrows comes to the kitchen window to investigate.

A little coffee scoop carved from a blackthorn crook. Tiny little thorn visible through the handle.
