Dungeons of Hinterberg from @microbirdgames.bsky.social was a real surprise. It flew under my radar last year but I'm happy I finally got around to it. A 'cosy' vacation-themed dungeon crawler with a bit of a bite and some real things on its mind. HIGHLY recommend checking this out.

Dispatch from @adhocstudio.com was excellent. Phenomenally well-written superhero workplace sitcom with some of the best character drama I've seen this year. Kinda wish the strategic layer was more fleshed out, but LOVED how it interlocked with the world building and storytelling.

if I had a nickel for every time @annapurna.com published a game about a burned out warrior learning to heal and rehabilitate through friendship and cosy gameplay loops, I'd have two nickels.

Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.

I haven't seen many reviews for Bounty Star (mine's coming real soon, I promise) but for now I want to urge y'all to not sleep on this gem of a game @annapurna.com.

It's a classical old western (but with mech battles) with immaculate vibes, evocative imagery, and some utterly gorgeous prose.

I'm playing #TheOuterWorlds2 on PS5. Look for my thoughts in all the usual places next week.

Platinum no. 107 is #GhostofYotei

A more ambitious, interesting game than its predecessor which sadly means I also have mixed feelings about it. Parts of it didn't quite work, but the parts that do are fucking immaculate.

Shortest 70 hours of my life, 10/10 will play again.

and that's #HollowKnight done. Holy shit what a game!

Many thanks to @elliejoypanic.bsky.social for gently bullying me into finally playing it.

Hell is Us is an utterly captivating investigative action adventure that's more likely to appeal to fans of Obra Dinn or Outer Wilds, than to fans of Elden Ring (though I'm sure there will be some overlap).

some more #cyberpunk2077 #photomode

brought out my inner tarantino for these

#Cyberpunk2077 new #photomode update is honestly surreal

Also played the PS5 version of #hellblade2. It's still a fiercely cathartic sequel despite fumbling its own themes a little bit. And they made the #photomode even better this time.

Depending on who you are #MafiaTheOldCountry is either a case study for how great storytelling can elevate pedestrian gameplay, or a cautionary tale for how pedestrian gameplay can drag down great storytelling (I was in the former camp).

Luto is near-perfect portrayal of the all-consuming emotional clusterfuck of denial, guilt, anxiety, and rage you can feel when dealing with grief. One of the most affecting games I've played this year.

#DeathStranding2OnTheBeach. Deffo "messier" than the original, but it pays off its own story setup beautifully, while building on the first game's themes in some really poignant ways. As emotionally resonant today as the first game was in 2019.
@kojipro2015.bsky.social has done it again.

Finally played #FinalFantasyVI. Not my favourite of the bunch, but I can see why it's so beloved and influential. Super glad I did this, and Celes is an all timer character, but VII remains hard to beat. Yknow?
August 19, 2025 at 5:13 AM
Y'all won't be seeing many reviews from me for the foreseeable. Going through a bit of a burnout and I need to take time to sort my brain out. Maybe play some older stuff from my backlog.

Starting with #FinalFantasyVI. I've heard it's pretty good!

I've found myself sucked into #EVERSPACE2 again. My god, what a fantastic game!

I found #DOOM 2016 aggressively boring, due to which I skipped #DOOMEternal when it first came out. But I did play through both of them recently and while I've come around to largely 'accept' 2016, DOOM Eternal is, imo, one of the all-time great action games.

I'm playing DOOM: The Dark Ages. Look for my thoughts later this week in all the usual places.

#ClairObscurExpedition33 has left me physically and emotionally exhausted, sweating from my eyeballs. This was a game whose every aspect - art, music, gameplay, story - felt like something someone was aching to put out in the world. And I feel so lucky to have been there for it.

yeah okay #ForzaHorizon5 is every bit as great as people have been saying, and I'm glad I finally got to play it. This will be a regular fixture on my PS5 library for the coming months as my go-to game to lean back and unwind.

Anyway I'm playing #forzahorizon5 right now, look for my thoughts next week in the usual places.
