As we spend more and more time on our devices and the tacky glossiness of AI images becomes more prevalent, I am feeling myself drawn even more to texture, imperfections, and the general look of things being unquestionably human-made.

Almost all parts of these illustrations are done with india ink & brush with finer details drawn digitally. Although I have a pretty extensive collection of ps brushes that do an excellent job of mimicking traditional media, there is still a loss of control that can't quite be matched on a computer.

in art school this method was referred to as "tradigital" and I feel like that was a very of-the-time term/portmanteau

slowly plugging away at this one, which will be a diptych. scanning in ink washes and drawing over them digitally. it's been nice to dip into more traditional work once in a while, even if it's not the entire piece.

I was supposed to see them twice in Detroit and neither show happened. The first time their tour bus broke down. The second time their bassist died. Maybe one day there will be a third time and that one will be the charm.

Shannon Shaw from my favorite band, Shannon and the Clams. Also a great bassist, but her voice is incredible and some of the notes she hits in their ballads just rip my heart out. Some of the most honest lyrics, too.
