Yes but I would guess the radical change people want is impossible ie a return to pre Brexit/COVID/Truss levels of mortgage/prices Vs wages which even then was clearly an unsustainable model.

It feels like being left-ish on fiscal policy whilst being right-ish on a lot of the culture war stuff appeases neither left not right; but also Labour have not been given even 10% of their due praise for things they have done well.
Even prime Al Campbell would struggle with today's media climate.

You know, I'm a soft left guy, who totally supports the rights of trans people and thinks the EHRC have got this wrong, but because it's not my life mission or I'm not in favour of sending Labour to the Hague I'm now jumped on in a way that would be at home on X? Hmmm

Jake I'm not arguing that your arguments on trans rights are wrong. Shouldn't need any nose holding from anyone, I don't see how human rights are a left -right thing.

With you on that, so if the thread was about that, I would look and try to learn. I tend to find Ian Dunt gives a clear precis of things for me.
But the point is, not everything is black and white and we have to hold our noses at some things that happen in order to get some other benefits🤷

Maybe you do, but there's multiple threads where you don't engage with the topic at hand and accuse Labour of murder etc. I am not sufficiently across all the details regarding trans issues (I'm assuming you're referring to the pause/review on meds given to teens) and wouldn't presume to debate

You know you can both disagree with JKR belief on trans issues, think that the EHCR publication was shit (and they've been asked to redo it) AND also have a rational view on the rest of the Labour agenda/performance? Every thread I read you post the same thing (almost JKR like)

I think that has always happened, but whereas before they'd just mouth off to their mates in the pub and annoy the rest of the folk in there, now it happens on Facebook where the other hundred racists in the town agree, and they get radicalised without knowing it

How does expanding RE prepare you for life outside school?! Totally agree Rebecca, religion needs to be taught from the perspective of its role in history, philosophy and culture (for both good and bad) not as a standalone subject.

Didn't the COVID self employed assessment scheme rather highlight this?
But I have paid cash in the past for trade work so guilty... and given the massive increase in materials cost as well as employer costs it's not surprising I guess, but probably does keep a lot of families going

Great essay Dorian. Never thought of it like this, but yes, the conspiracy theory as modern religion* for the masses makes sense and explains a lot of the seeming incongruities people can hold. (Extreme Christianity)
