The erosion of pay and insufficient specialty training places in the NHS is unacceptable - I have heard the impact that this is having on individual doctors as well as the impacts on services provided to patients by the NHS. I previously worked in the NHS as a children's health commissioner and also worked to address health inequalities through NHS health services. I worked closely with a range of incredible clinicians who were working hard to deliver high standards of care. NHS are staff ARE the NHS! The Green Party supports calls for a properly public funded NHS. During the2024 General Election our manifesto pledged £4.6 billion, specifically to tackle pay injustice, including settling the resident doctor dispute and funding a workforce plan designed to recruit and retain staff across the NHS. Our hearts go out to everyone affected. Sudan is facing the world's largest humanitarian crisis: 150,000 people killed, 12 million displaced, and 25 million in urgent need of aid. Humanitarian agencies warn that tens of thousands could die within days without access to food, water and medical care. We are deeply concerned byb credible reports that UK-made weapons exported to the United Arab Emirates have been found in RSF hands. We call on Hackney MPs to press the Government to back UN demands for humanitarian access, enforce the arms embargo, and act now to stop the massacres and deliever lifesaving aid.

Hackney Greens welcome the long overdue judgment on the assault on #ChildQ in 2020, an incident that continues to cast a long shadow over our borough and our nation. The dismissal of two Metropolitan Police officers for gross misconduct, is a significant step. However, this does not go far enough.
The Hackney Green Party welcomes the long overdue judgment on the assault on Child Q in 2020, an incident that continues to cast a long shadow over our borough and our nation. The dismissal of two Metropolitan Police officers for gross misconduct, along with a final warning issued to a third, makes a significant step in recognising the serious failings that took place. However, this does not go far enough. We are deeply concerned that the misconduct panel did not uphold the Director General’s findings of racism and adultification, two deeply troubling elements of the case that have been plainly identified and called out by the community and those directly affected. Antoinette Fernandez, Green Party Candidate for Hackney North and Stoke Newington in July 2024 said: “This will hopefully go some way to relieving the anguish and debilitating trauma caused to Child Q and her family, but unlikely to improve the lack of trust the Black community and people of Hackney in general have in the Met Police. I believe it is a step in the right direction towards achieving justice but both the teachers and police involved should be prosecuted further.” Antoinette Fernandez in front of Stoke Newington Police Station Hackney Green Party continues to stand in solidarity with Child Q and her family. We commend the bravery and strength of Child Q’s family who refused to be silenced or dismissed, and whose persistence made this outcome possible. This outcome must not mark the end of the process for accountability. We support the calls for further legal and professional scrutiny of both the officers and the school staff involved. No child should ever experience what Child Q endured. We remain committed to advocating for direly needed systemic change and anti-racist education locally and nationally. Hackney Green Party

The first substantive item is the petition brought by Hackney Palestine Solidarity Campaign to end the twinning relationship with Haifa in Israel. All Green councillors spoke in favour of the petition.
It's outrageous that Hackney has a twinning relationship with an apartheid state.
