so, in every fandom there's this one fic, it's not the fandom defining-fic, but it is a notable one. it's long, it's old, and it's still (miraculously) ongoing. it's not a good fic on the merits of writing, or storytelling, or plot, or characterizations - but it's there and almost everyone knows it.
