The optimistic/antiwar perspective to meeting other intelligent life was refreshing to see. Especially if you’re a linguistic nut like me
I think I want to rewatch Arrival because I didn’t love it love it in real time the way friends did and I feel like I missed its spark. It’s been enough time to try a rewatch.

This is how I feel about the american fiction argument that keeps coming up re: black middle class stories. Anytime that’s the complaint I assume they’re just not engaging with art for the experience itself
I feel like you’ll miss out on a lot of good art if you need every single thing to be relatable.
There’s a huge difference in art (education, positions, funding, awards) being representative & equitable versus an individual insulting any art if it’s not specifically a photocopy of their own life.

It was also interesting that both right-wing men clearly tried very hard to downplay their "traditional" beliefs on LGBTQ rights and abortion, both to their partners and to the Love is Blind audience in general.
