Spirit made their second NWSL championship in two years, so of course here’s another story about what’s bound to be a sorry game between the Commanders and Dolphins. Yes I know the Spirit were in front in yesterday’s paper but this is the only DC team that’s actually good at the moment.

Happy Championship Sunday to all who celebrate! Yes there’s NWSL today but some of these conference championship games deserve your attention also. Stanford-Notre Dame and Vandy-LSU obviously the big ones but I think Washington could use some eyeballs on it as well. 💜🧡

To paraphrase Jon Rothstein, “We sleep in January.” One conference title game finishing up in Orem and another one kicking off in Waco (and the Fun Belt’s is also tonight down on the Alabama Gulf shore)

This is my #DecisionDay post—on PA duty for a decision day of a different kind, the WCAC girls’ volleyball final! Not able to watch our Spirits but let’s close out strong before the real show begins.

Also I remember this friendly the USYNT played in France in early 2023, which basically was a college all-star team at the time, with AT, Coop, Big 🐟, Brianna Pinto and Hensley in there for good measure. I think we won 2-0 with Thompson and Cooper goals. Pardon the odd spelling of some of these.

And the SEC has been my favorite conference to watch this year, so it will be a fun week down in Pensacola. They’re putting all of these games on linear SEC Network, which is great and Mike and Jill should be there to call them because it just means more.

Big XII has also been a fun league to watch this season. BYU snuck in to grab the final spot in the tourney—quarterfinals and semis are at TCU’s field in Fort Worth and the final is at Baylor on Saturday. Last year Kansas ran the table and snagged the autobid.

B1G is already underway with the 8v9 and 7v10 games yesterday. Quarterfinals take place at Purdue’s campus tomorrow and Sunday and the semifinals/final are in St. Louis at St. Louis City SC’s stadium. This field feels pretty wide open but I haven’t watched a ton of the B1G this season.

Rematch of FSU-UVA in the opening round Sunday night, and Louisville had an under the radar season to get sneak into the top six. Notre Dame and Stanford await the winners in Cary next Thursday (and the road to the College Cup could very well go through Palo Alto or South Bend).
