I Taiwan fant vi mye av det samme som i Europa: Indre splid, folk som forstår at USA ikke er til å stole på, og politikere og våpenprodusenter som vil utnytte krigsfrykt til å tjene penger og kutte velferd.

In a highly globalized world, poor logistical infrastructure is effectively a tax on on the domestic manufacturing sector. That is why better infrastructure can be a far more efficient way to boost domestic manufacturing than import tariffs.

En ekkel påminner om at det ikke bare holder med gode institusjoner når folk som er uinteresserte i demokrati sitter på makta. Tydelig motstening mellom kald krig ideologi og demokrati. Et årvåkent samfunn som ikke lar seg lure var i Sør-Korea den viktigste motgifta.

I følge FT er Pettis er populær i Trumps kretser. Anbefaler boka hans trade wars are class wars for å forstå denne måten å tenke på. Jeg tror også at noen av tollene mot Kina har vært bra både for Kina og andre land 1/
