It's still recognisably an implementation of the Rules Cyclopedia, although it's not an exact 1:1 emulation. I've simplified a lot of the fiddlier bits and mechanics and cleaned up a lot of the ambiguous or outright contradictory bits.

Exactly

It's presenting a false dichotomy where vengeance or passive acceptance are the only options.

It's possible to actively resist evil, and also to take steps to prevent it from reoccurring (reluctantly using violence when necessary), without crossing the line into vengeance/hate territory.

I know, and I used it for a while. It mostly works but you have to keep saving because you can't go more than around ten minutes without a crash.

In the end it was less hassle to install the free version of VMWare and run a Win10 instance on it, since I had the license anyway.

I know the feeling.

I run the Affinity suite (Publisher, Designer, Photo), and I'd recommend them to anyone.

They don't have a native linux version, if that's your OS of choice, but they run fine for me in a VMWare virtual machine running Windows 10.

In my experience that makes the hoarding worse, not better.

The fact that the older items have degraded means you need to keep finding new ones to replace them just to keep breaking even and you'll never have enough of them to feel comfortable using one.

I'm not sure there's anything "Neo" about him, to be honest. He seems to be simply carrying on his family's tradition of classic Naziism.
