Statement from the National Federation Stonewall Democrats on the Passage of the NDAA Today, the Senate voted 86-12 to pass the National Defense Authorization Act, which includes discriminatory provisions targeting transgender service members. This betrayal of our community by both Republicans and elected Democrats is deeply troubling and underscores why the National Stonewall Democrats are urgently needed. While transgender service members demonstrate courage and dedication in defending our nation, Congress has chosen to erode their dignity and undermine the strength of our armed forces through exclusionary policies. Though we are still in our pre-launch period, it is critically important for us to speak up when elected Democrats turn their backs on the LGBTQ+ community. Silence is not an option. The National Stonewall Democrats will continue to advocate for equality and demand accountability from those entrusted with representing our values. We call on the President to reject this bill and for Congress to remove these harmful provisions. This moment strengthens our resolve to fight for a future where all Americans, including transgender service members, are treated with respect and fairness.
