the SteamVR keyboard is just so unfathomably ass I've now switched over to this free alternative called YuuBoard yuuzami.itch.io/yuuboard
Launch once and it replaces the default keyboard. much faster, more keys, lighter weight than overlays like XS for when u just want to use the built-in overlay

I think toggles are best, but there's also a neat feature in Poiyomi and lilToon called distance fade where u can make an object completely disappear when you get close enough. it could help for smaller props/tails that u don't want to toggle

quick guide to making a brightness slider with VRCFury with either Poiyomi or lilToon
the prefabs are good too, but with vrcfury it takes like 2 mins then u can copy it to all your avatars
